3 Stages of Unshattered

Stage 1

In recovery at one of our residential program partners

Unshattered works with women in residential recovery programs to help them develop skills, find their strengths, and prepare for the future.

Roles:
kit designer, seamstress, sales team member, team lead

Skills gained:
sewing, responsibility, leadership, problem solving, quality management, self-confidence, public speaking, and customer interaction

Stage 2

Pre-employment on-ramp 

Women in these roles join the team at the Unshattered Studio while living in transitional housing. This stage helps prepare women for employment and independence. 

Each woman is treated as an entrepreneur with the opportunity to create employment for themselves. They have goals for their productivity and the attitude they bring to the job and are eligible for full time employment at the completion of their apprenticeship. 

Roles:
kit designer, seamstress, sales team member, product designer, boutique manager

Skills gained:
crafting handbags, managing schedule dependencies, events management, inventory/supplies management, customer relationship management

Stage 3

Full time employment

Women in these roles are full-time employees receiving both wages and benefits including healthcare, paid vacation, vision/dental, and pension depending on their level.

In addition to their job responsibilities, they participate in an ongoing personal and professional development curriculum. These roles help women gain independence and economic stability. 

Roles:
designer, seamstress, production manager, office manager, custom design specialist, external collaboration lead, sales lead, procurement lead, quality control

Skills gained:
product design, quality control, inventory management, project management, photography, business development, team leadership, business management, industry collaboration management, bookkeeping, procurement, public speaking

A physicist and engineer by training, now a nonprofit leader and voice in the arena of post-addiction employment models. Kelly never imagined leaving her career in IT but has never been happier than when seeing the women on her team achieve their potential.

Dee Dee

Seamstress and Designer

Dee Dee was born in prison and life went downhill until she achieved sustainable sobriety in 2016. She recently spoke on stage at the White House on her journey and why employment matters!

Amanda

Creative Lead and Custom Seamstress

Moving to a new school as a preteen led to experimental drug use. Over-prescription of pain killers after a car accident led to a heroin addiction. Now she's a mom and a custom handbag designer!

Margie

Seamstress and Designer

Margie experienced devastating loss in her family and found herself spiraling into alcoholism. A former Pentagon employee, she's now a custom designer and dynamite seamstress!

Dea survived an act of sexual violence at the hands of a family member. She spent years using cocaine to hide from the pain losing her career and her dreams. Now  she's a talented seamstress and saleswoman!

Rachel

Sales and Events Lead

Rachel was raised in foster care and independent since the age of 14. She found her worth in men and drugs for decades. She was a meth addicted prostitute. Now she's handling our national shows and wholesale accounts!

Lois

Lead Designer

Nearly an entire lifetime of trauma led Lois into despair. Drinking alcohol was easier than trying to believe she had any value. Now she's a dynamite designer and genius kit maker!

Brenda

Seamstress

Brenda spent 20 years in prison and several surviving the streets. She's slept behind trashcans and survived any way she could. She struggled to find employment after recovery. Now she's working toward getting a key to her own front door!

Being molested as a child by a trusted adult led to crumbled self esteem and isolation. Jen turned to drugs and alcohol for comfort. But now she's finding out she's more talented than she ever thought!
